About this beach
This beach is a five‑kilometre stretch of sand backed by a broad pebble embankment that provides a natural flood defence. The Mawddach Estuary lies to the north, while steep cliffs rise behind the southern end of the beach. Along the shoreline are historic Second World War tank traps, known locally as Dragon’s Teeth. The bathing water sits within the Lleyn Peninsula and Sarnau Special Area of Conservation, with the northern section also designated as part of the Mawddach Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest. Water quality is monitored at a sampling point opposite the car park.
