About this beach
Fontygary Bay is a small southerly facing cove between Rhoose point and Aberthaw, in the Vale of Glamorgan. The bay is enclosed by steep cliffs where rock falls can occur. The foreshore is rock pavement, with a rocky shingle beach and patches of sand at low water. A caravan holiday park is located on the cliffs above the beach. There is access to the beach from the holiday park and from the Wales Coast Path. Access to the water is via a series of concrete steps, with a concrete slipway to the west side of the steps. East Aberthaw Coast Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) immediately west of the bathing water is nationally valued for its range of coastal habitats including limestone cliffs, shingle spits, saltmarsh, and relict sand dunes.
